Tech in the Commons

Tech in the Commons is back for its third year to give nonprofits the tech tools they need to grow their impact, audience, fundraising and organizational efforts.

Join us on June 26th from 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm at MakeOffices! Secure your $5 ticket here and get your money back at the event.

The first session of 2019, in partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal, will focus on census data and how it can be utilized for more informed decision-making for nonprofit and civic-minded organizations.

The census has been around for over 200 years and, for the first time, will be going digital in 2020. While an exciting step, there are still a lot of concerns about how the digital divide will cause important groups of people to be excluded from the count.

During this Tech in the Commons session, we’ll present three different case studies of organizations currently using census data, and discuss how best to use the data collected, and how to make sure data-driven decisions are fully informed and inclusive. After each speaker presents, we’ll break up into three different sections for more in-depth discussion between attendees and speakers.

Speakers TBA— stay tuned!! Got questions? Feel free to reach out to email me at fatima@technical.ly.

Best,

Fatima

Read the engaging new book from Marc Randolph.  Pre-Order today and get a special gift. Your Idea Sucks. But guess What? It Doesn’t Matter Back when I was in college, approximately 250 years ago, a friend of mine was a sculptor. She was taking a class with some famous visiting artist, the kind of guy who walks around in paint-spattered jeans and a beret, and every other day, he would come to her studio to critique her work. At the time, she was making these abstract fractals out of clay. They kind of looked like ferns. Each one was two or three feet tall, and took her weeks to finish. They were pretty good, I thought. The first time the visiting artist came to my friend’s studio, she had just started a new one. In maybe six or seven hours of work she had basically just done the stalk. “This is alright,” he said, slowly circling the work and nodding slowly. “I like where you’re headed with this.” Then he put his hand on top of the piece ...
