Now that June has come and gone, we are firmly in the summer season. And that's the perfect time of year to dig in deep and start to build up your small business!
Just a few weeks ago, I attended the NYC Procurement Fair, and it was terrific. Honestly, seeing so many minority and women business owners coming together to learn to connect with NYC government agencies… It was lovely to see. Of course, there were an awful lot of questions that got kicked up among the attendees. The fair was definitely a great introduction to working with government agencies, but if you want to land those procurement contracts, you're going to need to get into the nitty gritty of it all!
Hope you have a wonderful, productive, and, most of all, successful summer!
All my Best,
Jean Kristensen

How to Acquire Contracts with NYC Agencies through Discretionary Purchases

The recently proposed legislation seeks to increase the discretionary purchasing threshold from 150,000 to $ 1 million. This allows NYC agencies to award contracts to small, minority and women-owned businesses without a formal competitive process.
The Mayor of NYC has announced that the City intends to award 20 Billion to MWBEs by 2025 using a variety of procurement methods.
Discretionary purchases is an excellent way for MWBEs to gain access to the supply chain while concurrently acquiring the experience necessary to compete for larger projects.
